The Suzuki uses the next generation of K-series petrol engine, the engine production will start in December 2008. Sale of Maruti Suzuki, for September 2008, jumped by 5.27%.

A-Star will also be carried out under the Nissan brand in Europe and the Middle East and called PIXO. Nissan may also sell the same car in India with a different brand. The new car is perhaps the only model in the world that has 750 variations, will be sold in 151 countries, including Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Maruti Suzuki is also increasing the number of engineers working in R & D center of the current level of 570 engineers at around 1000 to 2010. Renault will produce about 1 lakh car units of the A-Star a year for the export market and 50 thousand for the domestic market. The same model is the Nissan under a contract manufacturing arrangement. The A-Star is the fifth of the global strategy of Suzuki model, which means that the same car can be done simultaneously in other countries. Suzuki will sell the same car in Europe, but in the context of Alto, and under the names Celerio.

The A-Star is positioned as A2-segment cars. The A2 category has a share of 71 per cent of the Indian passenger car market, representing about 1.3 million units. The A-Star is the eighth car launched by the company in four years, and A-Star model is part of the Rs. 9,000 Crore investment plan for five years ending 2010.

According to the plan, RS 2,500 Crore has been invested in creating a diesel with a production capacity of 3 lakh engines during 2010. Another Rs 2500 Crore will be invested in the plant at Manesar for expansion and up gradation and the rest for the implementation of K-series engines plant and up gradation and extension of the factory Gurgaon.

Maruti Suzuki is also increasing the number of outlets across the country to 1,000 in 2010 from the current level of 600. In 2007-08, Maruti Suzuki 7.11 lakh cars were sold in the domestic market and export about 53,000 units of Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto cars. In 2010, Maruti Suzuki plans to export about 2 lakh cars mainly by the A-Star model.
